Progressive Business Webinars

My 6-part (9 hour) intermediate workshop on SQL Server and Reporting Services is an ongoing hit. This series of webinars offered by Progressive Business Technology is an ongoing offering currently scheduled to be given live every other month. Each attendee gets a copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th edition) as well as the Hitchhiker's Guide to SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services.

For those just getting started with SQL Server and Reporting Services, I've added a new introductory 9-hour Webinar that teaches the fundamentals. That is, how to create a database, create relationships and indexes, how to write a TSQL query, how to lay out a report and much more. Each 90-minute lecture is followed by an interactive lab where I work with individual students to help work through the exercises.

Hitchhiker's Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition)

The 7th edition of Bill's popular Hitchhiker Guide series continues to be a best seller. Developers, architects and IT managers join with Amazon to rate this book as «««««. This totally re-written encyclopedia on Visual Studio and SQL Server architecture, application development and best practices includes over 1100 pages of examples and frank discussion to help developers at all skill levels take the mystery out of .NET application design and implementation. It includes a DVD that contains a comprehensive set of examples of the content discussed in the book. Drawn from almost 35 years of experience in the business, the book answers the questions most frequently asked by Bill's customers, public forums, newsgroups and conference attendees all over the world. Bill has posted more information on the book's new support website. A number of online stores are offering a substantial discounts (over 40%). We suggest going to Best Buy Books for the best price. Just be careful, if the book has already been registered, you won't get free access to our support site. Make sure the GUID registration key on the first page has not been uncovered.

See the Reviews page for a sampling of reviews.

Hitchhiker's Guide to SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition

Bill's first EBook has also been receiving rave accolades. This 80-page book provided online through the support site, is designed to help developers come up to speed quickly on this reincarnation of Microsoft's popular SQL Mobile DBMS engine. You might have seen it previewed as "SQL Server Everywhere", but it's now been officially released as Microsoft makes the final changes to integrated it into its next Visual Studio service pack. Download a copy from the support site: http://www.hitchhikerguides.net.

Our Reporting Services book is still a best-seller!

Peter Blackburn and Bill Vaughn's book "Hitchhiker's Guide to SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services" is still a best seller and now in its fourth printing. For those of you that want a free taste, you can download the first two chapters--enjoy! The book's website is also a great way to ask questions about Reporting Services. We also recorded a Webcast for Microsoft that might help get you up to speed on Reporting Services. See www.sqlreportingservices.net for more information, sample videos and to sign up for our support services.

The book is an in-depth study of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services--far more than a documentation re-hash. It discusses security, report management, design and how to program reports using Visual Studio.NET 2003.
